The latter type of study is absolutely safe, does not require anesthesia, is well tolerated, since the root of the tongue is not irritated, does not interfere with breathing, and the diameter of the endoscope is only 0.5 cm. The procedure usually takes only 5-10 minutes and the patient immediately returns to his usual activities.
A colonoscopy is used to examine the intestines. It is possible to perform the procedure under general anesthesia. This is a very important and informative study for the diagnosis of inflammatory diseases, as well as neoplasms.
